Hiring Manager(s) Interviewing Tips

One common thread always seems to surface during the final phase of any search, the interview with the hiring manager(s), boards or committees.  Almost always, it begins with why does he/she want the job?  And, we always explain, prior to, that the majority of the presented candidates are not looking for another position.  They are there to present themselves, yes, but to learn more about the organization, to meet the key people and to see for themselves if “this” truly is a better opportunity.

The Greatest Generation, Tom Brokaw

Tom Brokaw’s book, The Greatest Generation, was a major best seller, and rightfully so.   Mr. Brokaw profiles a number of men and women who fought in WW ll.  A common thread was courage, perseverance and hard work.  Those men and women were different from our current generation, most never changing jobs or if they did, it was only once or twice.

Five Myths in the Hiring Process

Myth Number 1……. “Everyone wants to work here”
  • Sometimes true, sometimes not. Always assume the candidate needs to be sold on the opportunity. Do this after you have evaluated them and believe they are a possible hire. Remember, your first question should never be, “Why do you want this job?” Save it for later in the interview and phrase it more in the fashion of, “Why is this position of interest?”
